2009 has been pretty great to me, writing-wise. (And thank goodness!) In 2008 I called myself the Queen of the Almost. I think in 2009, I became the Queen of Maybe.
I've written at least 100k of new material, a book and three new short stories.
I've sold to Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Abyss and Apex, Shimmer, Morrigan Ezine, the Footprints anthology and Polluto Magazine. I still have the publications in Polluto, Shimmer, and Abyss and Apex forthcoming -- so 2010 is already looking up ;).
Someone voted my story
"Hangman" for a Nebula (which wasn't me, i'm not even a SFWA member!) -- it was super awesome of someone to think of it in that way. (And luckily someone else emailed me to tell me that it was on the list, heh!) And google alerts notified me that my story
"The Alchemist's Feather" was on a best of 2009 list at
Asking the Wrong Questions, which is a random kick ass thing to find :D.
I got to do my first two readings at conventions/stores this past year, from "...that I carried you", my story that sold to the
Footprints anthology, one at Wiscon and the second at Borderlands, and both were well attended/received :D.
I've sold my first requested reprint (they! requested! me!) of Maze, formerly on the Fishnet Magazine website, to the Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica, which you can
pre-order on Amazon. That I got their email out of the blue tickles me to no end.
In a hold over from 2008's good news, my WOTF story Cruciger got a positive Publishers Weekly review this year.
I attended and had a fabulous time at Potlatch, Wiscon, and WFC, getting to meet many of you fine folk :D.
And i participated in the Clarion West Write-A-Thon, and organized a reading at Borderlands. I look forward to doing the same next year :D.
My word for 2009 was diligence...i think my word for 2010 is going to be focus. I have some crazy writing ideas for next year. I can feel a full head of steam building up, and i'm ready to work on some really ambitious plans. More about those later, back under the cloak of friends-lock ;).
